You can clearly tell that Westlife love performing in Scotland cos all the lads were pretty hyper! During ‘Flying Without Wings’, Nicky and Bryan were whispering about something and Mark wanted to know what it was, but they wouldn’t tell him! LOL Mark announced the acoustic part of the show wearing a t-shirt with the name ‘Thomas’ on it. During this, Shane was late getting back on the stage and Mark was wondering where he was then he turned around to find Shane walking back on, so Mark said ‘oh, there he is!’ Bless him!
After singing ‘My Love’ Bryan told us two jokes (he also said that he gets all his jokes of Nicky!). First joke: ‘Paddy says to Nicky, if you can guess how many sandwiches I have, you can have the pair of them’ ;) and the second one was: ‘Paddy is driving in his car and gets stopped by the police. He is asked where he is from and after he says ‘Ireland’, he is asked to stand in a while circle and stay in there at all times. Then the policeman turns back to Paddy’s car and smashes up different parts of his car. Paddy laughs every time that the policeman faces him. The policeman asks him why -> Paddy jumped out of the circle every time the policeman had his back turned to him! LOL
After Bryan told the first joke, Shane asked him to tell it again cos he didn’t get it the first time around! Hehe and even after the second time, you could see Shane thinking a bit before starting to smile! LOL
Kian got a bit bored when Bryan was telling the jokes so he strummed some cords on his guitar and after Bryan was finished with the jokes, Nicky told him off for taking too long telling them!
After singing ‘Bop Bop Baby’, Shane make us all do a Mexican Wave which I thought was great fun. He even showed us how to move, how to throw your arms in the air really enthusiastically :) ooh that was so nice!! After he was done, Mark asked him to do it again! - ‘Do that one more time, Shane!?’ - LOL Next up, some fans were brought up on the stage to sit with the lads, when they sang the other songs of the acoustic section. Shane moved to sit on one of the big cushions with 4 of the fans, so Mark moved to Shane’s chair and Nicky went to sit on the sofa with Kian and Bryan. During ‘Queen of my heart’ Nicky started to play with Bryan’s guitar, which earned him a slap on his hands by Bryan! LOL One more funny thing, Shane had to practically shoo Mark out of his chair before they sang ‘To be with you’ :)
The medley that followed was excellent! Nicky laid down again when he sang ‘I get around’ and Shane almost fell over Nicky and Kian they were running around the stage during Bryan’s song! Oh and Bryan jumped down from the stage into the audience when he was singing ‘Do you love me’ Poor Dave (security) brought him back really quickly though cos the fans went crazy There was also a MarKian moment when Kian walked out backwards in front of Mark but I don’t think Mark found it very funny
The lads singing on the flying platform was new for me cos in Holland we had a catwalk instead of this. Kian was the first one to come back on the stage and he introduced all the other lads to us (as if we didn’t know their names already, Kian! LOL) He asked us to scream for Bryan McFadden but when he didn’t show up, Kian said we shouldn’t scream for him! hehe And when Shane sat next to Kian, the latter said ‘Hi, nice to see you again’ (???)
I was amazed how close the lads get to all the fans when they were flying on that platform. They went right to the back of the arena so I think Jessie also got to see them pretty close up at one point :) Of course fans threw different things to the lads seeing as they are close. Stuffed animals, flags, you name it! Nicky also threw a teddy back after being hit by one in the face! LOL and Mark also threw a teddy back into the audience after being stopped three times from doing so by Mr. Byrne! :) Kian and Shane also had a conversation with some of the audience members after they had read their banners. It was great to hear a live version of ‘Written in the stars’ by the way, as they didn’t sing this song during their concert in Rotterdam. Nicky said it was Mark’s favourite song ;)
Once back on the stage, Shane thanked everyone and said a new single would be out in September. The album would follow in November and they will also be back in Glasgow for more concerts next year :) Kian then scolded him for telling everything he also wanted to say. When Nicky said goodbye he got a bit confused so he ended up saying something like 'See you next tomorrow, year, whatever’! LOL He also called back a couple of people when he saw they were leaving already - ‘get back hear love - tell the taxi to wait - we lied, it’s not the end of the show, we are still gonna to do three songs!’ Hehe
Nothing special or funny happened during the encore, but people in front of us, did started to stand on their chairs, which was annoying to say the least! ......
9th of July 2003
This time we were seated on row G (8th row) in block HH. The concert again was a lot of fun, even though Kian was feeling a bit poorly. He actually moaned quite a bit telling us that we were not loud enough and things like that. Before ‘Flying Without Wings’, Nicky almost forgot to say the Thank You’s he normally has to say. And he and Bryan again whispered during the songs.
Bryan again had two jokes for us. ‘Paddy asks Nicky (I think!) - if we are
in a plan and it would fly upside down, would we fall out? - No, we will still
be friends!’.
The second one was a joke where Bryan was stopped by the police for driving
150 mph in Mark’s car (Mark objected at this point and Bryan said that he would
be going 230 mph in his own car, Mark’s only goes 150 mph max! LOL) Bryan is
asked for his security card and he tells the policeman it’s in his glove compartment,
as well a gun! The policeman gets worried and then Bryan tells him that he has
also killed his wife and that her body is in the boot! So the policeman calls
for back up and when they arrive, the special team opens the glove compartment
to find no gun. The first policeman doesn’t believe them and asks them to open
the boot for the body. Then Bryan went ‘the next thing you know, he (the policeman)
will tell you I was doing a 150 mph on the motorway!’ LOL
When Shane was getting the crowd to do another Mexican Wave, Mark warned him that his fly was down! Bless Shane He turned back to us and did it up! LOL He must have been so embarrassed! Bryan also got one of the fans who was invited on to the stage to dance with him when they were singing ‘Queen of my heart’ (it was last year’s dance by the way). Nicky and Mark changed places again during the acoustic bit when Shane went to sit with the fans.
Bryan jumped off the stage again during ‘Do You Love Me’ and Nicky laid down to only move his foot to the beat of the music when he sang ‘I get around’! LOL
When the lads were on the flying platform, Mark wore this Scottish hat complete with red hair! LOL And ‘Written in the stars’ now was Shane’s favourite song according to Nicky. On their way back to the stage on the flying platform, Nicky collected all the different items thrown up at them. He had an Irish flag, a Scottish flag, a Sligo Rovers Flag (which he hands to Mark who very proudly displayed it on his lap!), a pink cowboy hat and a foam finger!
During the Thank You’s Kian thanked us for the last four years and he hopes there will be four more! And Nicky was a bit confused at the end cos he forgot they would have a concert the next day seeing as he said ‘see you on Saturday afternoon!’

The concert itself was fantastic! I enjoyed this one the most out of all three of them. Dave kept on staring as us the whole time but it didn’t stop me from enjoying myself :) By the way, he looked so bored at one point during the show! The lads kept looking our way lots of times they must have read our card then (Thanks Gregg!!). When Nicky was doing his intro of ‘Flying Without Wings’ Shane pointed towards us and then went to talk to Kian about something.
Dave made some playful gesture towards Bryan during ‘My Love’ (something like, ‘wait till later, you will get it then!’) which cracked him up so much, he stopped singing and playing his guitar! Shane checked to see if his fly was up before he stood up to do another Mexican Wave with us all :) During ‘Queen of my heart’ Bryan was laying on his back on the sofa lazy lad! LOL The little girl who was sitting next to Shane got to kiss his cheek at the end of QOMH - bless!
Bryan told three jokes that night but I only remember two the other one mustn’t have been that funny. First Bryan asked who was at the concert yesterday and the day before when he heard screams to both, he told us he wouldn’t have any new jokes but then he came up with a couple anyway ;) The first joke was a Jimmy joke again: Jimmy was in school making aeroplane noises. When the teacher asks him to stop it, he made breaking sounds ;) And the other joke was the same one Bryan told in London and Dublin the one where Jimmy psssssts in the ear of a dog.
The medley was THE BEST! Seeing Kian, Bryan and Mark very close make me feel faint! :) Bryan again went down from the stage and he walked right past us! Of course there were lots of fans rushing towards him so he was guided back to the stage by Dave very quickly!
When Kian was calling all the other lads back to the stage to sit on the flying platform, he got us to call Nicky bless the smile on that boy’s face when he came out :) When they were out flying, Nicky got a packet of crisps thrown up at him he opened it up, smelled, ate one and then offered them to the others Mark took one but the others didn’t Bryan got a pink cowboy hat thrown at him so he put it on it looked so small on his head! LOL Oh and I got a wave and a smile of Nicky *swoon* ;)
When the lads were all the way at the back of the concert hall, most people at the front stood on their stools but we all just danced around at the front Dave and some of the SECC people must have thought we were out of our minds but it was great fun! LOL
When they got back on the stage Bryan put on this pink sweater that was about 10 sizes to small! LOL Dave threw a gold coloured handbag from one of the girls in the audience to Nicky, who took and it started walking around all ‘gay’! Hehe! He also talked in a really high voice but then Bryan wanted to have the handbag and started to have a look inside of it he found some money so he said: ‘lads, the drinks are on her tonight!’, whilst pointing to the owner of the bag ;) And I think he also put on some lipstick but I am not completely sure The girl got her bag back in the end ;) Shane was laughing the whole time and Kian wrapped a Scottish flag around himself during all this Whilst walking off the stage Nicky offered Bryan his arm and they walked off arm in arm together! LOL
Nothing really special happened during the encore but it was lovely to see Mark so close up! The girl next to me had a little Irish flag which said ‘Mark, show us your dimples!’, which he did - bless him! :D
