Westlife 'No.1' Tour 2005'
Dublin & Cork, 8-21.Februar 2005
Review by Lisa

February 8th I flew over to Dublin to see the 2005 Westlife Tour at the Point Depot.
At the Airport I met up with my friend Didi from Holland and together we took the bus to town and checked into our hostel. We got changed and made our way up to the Point Depot at the Docklands in Dublin. Due to our flight we were later then we wanted but were still in time to see the show.

The lights went out and the screens showed Westlife winning Awards and then bits from the videos of all the number 1's. Then dramatic music played and lights guided the Lads from the back of the arena to the Stage. They walked right through the fans guarded by security. I have to say it was a cool way to get on stage!
Once on stage they burst into Uptown girl. They wore lovely black suits and after the welcome speech they performed: Hey Whatever, If I let you go, and Mandy. During Mandy there was lots of fog and if you were too close to stage you were close to choking. LOL;-) At some of the shows the fog was a bit too much and you could see the lads trying to wave it away. With fireworks the first part of the show ended.

Music played (I thought it was really sad) and then they showed very old and newish pictures of the lads on the videosreen. I'm a Westlife fan from since when they were called Westside and I got really emotional beeing reminded of the last 6-7 years. I tried my best not to start crying and just about succeeded. The lads then reapeared on stage. This time on top of the stage.
They wore outfits like they had on in the unbreakable video and a huge Unbreakable banner was behind them. It looked fab. They sang Unbreakable. I love the songs even more now that Nicky and Kian sing the parts that were Bryans. In my opinion they sound and look much better now.
After Unbreakable, Mark gave a little speech and the others sat down on the stairs. Mark thanked everyone to have made My Love a number one and record of the year then he sat down and they sang a lovely version of My Love.
Next was Swear it again. There were 4 stools up on a little sidestage and lots of burning candles in front of them on the floor. (During one show Nicky had to push back the stools a little as they stood too close to the candles, and they would have got hot toes ;-) ). Behind the stools was a lovely curtain and it looked really romantic *sigh*
Then the next song woke everyone up from their romantic dreams. When you're looking like that was one of the best performances of the show. With a little fireworks that blinded you if you looked straight into it (which I accidently did a few times) they ended this session.

The band played a song and after that it was time for the fantastic medley. There were jukeboxes on the screens and the lads apeared in silver suits on top of the stage again. Burn Baby Burn was the first song. It was hillarious and great at the same time. Even if you suffered from depression you couldn‘t stop smiling and singing along. Next was Pretty Woman where Kian took over and left the fans gobsmacked. My favourite part of the Medley was I feel fine.

Two by two faced each other and danced their way up the stage where they stood in a group. Then they kept dancing up the stairs and and when they reached the top they did a really funny thing. The first and third would bend down while the second and fourth kept upright then they would change quickly. It looked so funny. Up-down-up-down and down they danced on the stairs of the other side. Then Mark gave a brilliant version of Michael Jacksons Don't stop until you get enough. He was absolutely amazing. This bloke has a voice that‘s unbelievable. They danced for this song and the next was Footloose. I so loved the dance. It was simply impossible to sit still. And most of the shows we were allowed to stand up for the Medley. Thank God.

After the boys dissapeard through a little round plattform the screens showed a medley from the Ratpack Album. And a bar was put on stage. While it was still dark Nicky came on stage and sat down at one of the stools in front of the bar. Kian and Shane reappeared through the round platform. All of them were wearing suits and ties. Shane also wore a hat. They started singing Ain‘t that a kick in the head. Mark came from the side of the stage and joined in the song. Then Nicky left the bar to join in too. After the song they sat down at the bar to have some whiskey (or rather Apple juice and water ). Although I was pretty sure Kian accidently got some real whiskey at some of the shows! (Na, just kidding!)
Nicky gave a speech and was interrupted during some of the shows and the lads where fighting over who would give the speech. Nicky won. And he said that they met Frank Sinatra 65 years ago. Which of course, was a lie! As Shane said it was only 62 years ago. Well, Frank asked them when they do a show in 2005 to sing a special song called Smile. Mark started off and Shane then sang his part. It was so lovely.Nicky and Kian started dancing away then pretend to spot each other and danced together and then Nicky pushed away Kian who pretended to be hurt. It was hillarious.
After that Kian said that the next song is one of their favourites (and everyone who got the last issue of Westzine where we did the Favourite Album tracks knows it certainly is one of the fans favourites too).
Mack the knife. The Ratpack part ended far too soon and there was only one part left of the show.

Dressed in black suits back on top of the stage they performed World of our own .After that Nicky said some Thank yous. He thanked the Fans for the last 6-7 years and said that they were amazing years. And it would be nice to have another 7 years to come, but who knows how long it goes.
Well, it certainly didn't sound too convincing for me. It definetely sounded more like its going to end soon. All we can do is wait anyway. Wait and hope it will last a little longer. The lads have given us so many fantastic years and have sarcrifised lots. So whatever happens it is their desicion and we have to accept it and a true fan will support them. No matter what.
Nickys little speech was followed by What makes a man. During the song photos of fans together with Westlife were shown up on the screen. Then more thank yous followed and Westlife left the stage. Only the encore was left
Four little square plattformes with the lads on top raised high in the air. (No one would have ever made me go up on such a thing! I swear!) A few meters above the stage the performed the very last song Flying without wings and then dissapeared surroundet by fog in the inside of the stage. The End of a fantastic show.

We couldn't wait to come back the next day to see the show again.
I came back to every of the 7 shows they held in Dublin.
So far I thought they would never ever be able to top 2002 World of our own-In the round Tour. Which was my absolutely favourite. But they defenitly topped it with the 2005 No 1's Tour!! In my Opinion it was their best Tour yet! I wish I would have been able to see it another 20 times at least!

After 7 shows in Dublin my friends and I made our way down to Killarney where we rented a holiday house. We wanted to spend a little time in Sligo so we went from Dublin to Sligo and from there to Killarney. Lucky us missed the ferry by 10 minutes, so we had to go all the way back to Limerick and head on from there. Eventually we managed to arrive in Killarney middle of the night to find someone had taken our house by mistake and we didnt have a place to go. After a while the problem was sorted out and we just fell into bed more dead then alive but still excited to see next days show in Millstreet.
Green Glens Arena we found out was actually for horse shows and show jumping. Unfortunately Westlife didn't have to show jump but performed another brilliant show.
The arena happened to be a little bit too low for the stage and I was pretty sure that the lads would bump their heads any second but luckily they didn't. Because the arena was so low you hardly could see the Unbreakable banner. And the red Westlife writing was squashed behind the band. The shows were as great as the previous Dublin shows though.
The last one of the Cork dates, February 20th, was the best of the 3 in my opinion. The only thing I didn't like much was the fact that we hardly were allowed to stand up. Not even during the medley! Some days were better then others, but we had to keep seated for most of the shows.
Well it was an experience to see the shows in Millstreet but I just hope there won‘t be any more shows there. And not just because our car got stuck in the soggy earth of the "carpark" and we had to pull it out...
I would love another show in Sligo though. But there is no arena for that. Someone really should build a concert arena in Sligo! I so LOVED the shows I wished I could have seen it 20 more times, but I had to go back to work and most important of all to my little son who stayed at home with his Grandma while I was away. Nicky Mark is still too small to go to concerts with me, but he does love Westlife. So if there's another Tour net year I might bring him to see a show then. He will love that.
