Love is... love ain't...

Top of the Pops magazine, #100, June 2003

From Rolex watches to fine art pieces, love is finding out the expensive tastes of Kian Westlife - and then mouthing off about mangy boiler suits just for fun!

Love is...

Banoffee pie. I just love the bananas and the caramel! I can't cook it myself but we normally have it on tour - it's definitely a tour desert. I don't know about putting it on our rider but it's always something we ask the caterers to do for us at some point. Mmm!

Come on down, the price is right, (90's game show) which I remember watching when I was younger! That programme was so funny. I always wanted to be on it cos I thought I could guess the prices quite close. We'd have big discussions among ourselves in the room as to who'd be the closest at guessing the price of the food blender or whatever it was! I was very good, thank you!

Classical music, which might surprise some people. I'm more into things like the Lion King and that type of classical music - soundtrack music if you like. People just think I like my rock music, and classical seems at the opposite end of the scale! It's something I started listening to a couple of years ago - by just kind of hearing it in movies and stuff - and really enjoying the strings, then buying it and listening to it all the time.

Donald Duck, cos I can talk like him and make people laugh. I just love cartoons - I watch so many! At the moment I'm into Rugrats but my favourite cartoon character of all time would have to be the Tasmanian Devil. Luckily, I've got digital TV so he's on quite a lot.

Fixing bicycles! I've got a hidden talent for fixing bikes. I can take a bicycle apart and put it all back together. We used to do it all the time when we were kids. And we used to soup up our bikes big time, ha-ha! That's a S**** Heap Challenge!

My favourite painting. It's a triptych that hangs in my flat. It's hard to explain - it's kind of a painting that's split in three. I bought it in an art gallery in London - I thought it was really cool. It was quite expensive. It's a picture of three naked ladies but you can't really see… there's no naked breasts or anything!

My Rolex. I'm passing my first Rolex onto my first kid when he turns 18. gold discs are amazing but there are so many of them now and if I pass them down they wouldn't mean as much as something more personal, like my Rolex.

Love ain't...

Not being able to get comfortable, especially when we're travelling all over the place. I've got some baggy Gucci jeans that are my ultimate chill-out trousers. I wear them at home and for travelling cos they're really soft. I don't wear pyjamas so my Gucci's are my chill-out trousers.

Vegetables. When I was younger, like most kids, I hated vegetables. I only ever ate carrots. But you know what? Now, I quite like them! I don't know when I started but now I eat broccoli and green beans and stuff, I've gotten into them an awful lot lately - it's very healthy!

School! I hated school, I didn't have any favourite subjects, not one! English was the best of the lot cos it was mostly about writing essays and I suppose that was the most creative but I didn't love school! I'd rather have been riding my bike!

Bloomin' boiler suits! I've seen boiler suits on people lately and you just go, "What?!" Why are people wearing boiler suits? I mean there are boiler suits for comedy reasons but this is suppoed to be a fashion statement and it does not look good!

Cold weather. I was born to live in a warm country - full stop! As soon as there's a speck of sun I'm out like a lizard. If the sun's shining I won't stay in, I'll be out of my bed and in the sun. I don't have any one holiday spot I like to go to - anywhere hot!

Not having time to do up my houses. I've always got some sort of project on the go when it comes to property, whether it's my apartment in London or my house in Ireland, or even my house in Portugal that I'm looking into now. There's just loads of stuff going on. I sometimes watch Changing Rooms and stuff but I don't get enough time to spend on my own place!

Never being able to have a dog. I've never had a dog cos unfortunately there's an awful lot of asthma in my family - luckily I've never had it myself, but we still couldn't really get a dog. And I love dogs cos they are the most playful creatures in the world. I love those ones with long, fluffy hair the best, like ****er spaniels. I think when I settle down properly I'll definitely get myself a dog.
